History
The Harris County Darts Association is a proud member of the American Darts Organization (ADO). The ADO was established in 1976 as the national organizing body for the sport of darts in the United States. In addition, the ADO is a full member of the World Darts Federation. The ADO sponsors several different national playoff programs, which send participants across the United States and around the world. The ADO is also the only sanctioning body for dart tournaments in the U.S. Last year they sanctioned tournaments with a total of over 1 million dollars in prize money. The Harris County Darts Association was organized in 1974. Its sole purpose is to promote the sport of darts.
Tournaments
The HCDA hosts two major tournaments a year attracting players from around the United States and the world. The Bluebonnet Classic is held at the beginning of each year and the Houston Open is played in the summer months.
League Play
There are three nights of league play, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Each night has skill levels ranging from novice to masters. Wednesday and Thursday have some regional play as well. This means that you can play in a specific part of town instead of traveling all over the city.
The Board of Directors
A Board of Directors elected by the membership governs the Harris County Darts Association. There are 11 positions, all filled by unpaid volunteers. The positions are held for two years, with half the board up for election each June. All board meetings are open to the public, and anyone wishing to address the Board need only call the office and asked to be placed on the agenda.
City Championship
The HCDA is not just leagues and tournaments. Each October-November, we have a Men’s and Women’s City Singles Championship. The returning champion, and 11 others who qualify, one per month, play to determine the singles championship.
TSTC
Also each year, the HCDA sends a team to the Texas State Team Championship. This traveling event pits 11 person teams from all over the state against each other in a unique and challenging format. The HCDA founded the TSTC and was instrumental in the formative years of this event.
