The Houston Open on June 20th has now been sanctioned by the British Darts Organisation [fancy continental spelling!]. Great news as this should attract additional competitive players and increases the international profile of Houston area darts.

BDO INVITATION TABLES SYSTEM & STRUCTURE
NOTES ON THE REVISION OF THE CRITERIA – PERIOD 2008-2009
The revision of the BDO Invitation Tables Criteria includes consideration of those events in the ‘old’ Category ‘C’ which have not improved on the level of first place prize money to £1000 or over.

Two revised categories, ‘C’ which recognises events with a first prize of £1000/Over and ‘D’ which recognises events with under £1000 first prize, have been introduced. The new BDO International Open event has been allocated to Category ‘B’, and the Belgium Open and the Northern Ireland Open have been upgraded to Category ‘B’ due to improvements in prize money and player participation.

All other events that were listed in the ‘old’ Category ‘C’ have been re-allocated to a ‘new’ Category ‘D’. The allocation of points in the new Category ‘D’ remain the same as the ‘old’ Category ‘C’.

The 2008 French Open will be recognised in 2008 in the new Category ‘D’. The Points allocations in the categories for Special Events and the Events outside Europe have been increased by ‘3’ points per placing, and those events in Categories ‘A’ and ‘B’ have been increased by ‘2’ points per placing.

In the Winmau World Masters the allocation of points for the Jt 25th to 40th positions has been identified.

The IDL and WDT darts events in the Netherlands have been withdrawn from the system. The Zuiderduin Masters now includes a Women’s event which will be recognised. In the Category for ‘Events outside Europe’ – ‘4’ new events have been recognised namely the Houston Open Singles, the Las Vegas Classic, the Malaysia Open, and the U.S.A. Dart Classic.

Several of the notes on Page J 4 have also been amended reflecting the changes that have been identified during the early part of 2008.

The implementation of the revised Criteria is effective immediately, and the amendment to existing points allocations will be backdated to Monday 15th October 2007,  – the day after 2007 WDF World Cup in the Netherlands.

The points allocations in the following events will be upgraded accordingly; Australian Masters, Northern Ireland Open, Winmau World Masters, Zuiderduin Masters, Lakeside World Professional, Las Vegas Open, Dutch Open, Scottish Open, Finland Open, Torremolinos Open {Women}, Welsh Masters, and German Open.

Hi everyone! We have a few more teams added to our league, so that means more beginners. Welcome new members! Please don’t get discouraged if you’re not playing that well, and don’t lose your joy. Keep a positive attitude and don’t give up!

Attitude can make or break all dart players. I always try to play with zeal and enthusiasm. Playing darts should be fun, not stressful. And for goodness sake, don’t ever make someone feel bad because they’re not playing well!

Thanks to the members that came out for the Bluebonnet in February and the General Membership Meeting last weekend.

Good luck. Get those win points!

The Harris County Darts Association has long published a newsletter called Wired Out. The publication switched from print to a PDF format mailed out to the general membership over time. “What? There’s a newsletter?” Yes, yes. We know. It’s been ages since you’ve seen one. That’s why this blog is here. To keep you up-to-date on issues and fun facts in the realm of Houston area darts.

Larry DeBondt is doing a fantastic job with the official website, HoustonDarts.org. This blog will not compete with the website, but will bring you other stories, general musings and diversions from the local darts scene. Consider this an experiment.
